The Sign (2004)
It is a story about a Deaf girl who sees the hand that appears in front of her very own eyes. She wonders why she can see them, but not the others. She soon finds out why when she meets someone who knows her language, the sign language.
This short film is my first one to enter a film competition -the Cultural and Short Films Festival during the event of the Deaflympics in Melbourne in January 2005. This film came 3rd so I am happy about that. We filmed for two days and the film lasted only 7 minutes!
This film is probably my "real" short film. The one that I made for the real thing, that is entering the short film competition. My film went up against two other excellent films made by Deaf film-makers from Sydney and Perth. They were like a pro! I was a beginner! But it's a good start anyway. It was an excellent experience and the feedbacks were all very worthwhile! I hope there will be many more Deaf Short Film competitions years to come!

Behind the Scenes
Many Deaf people, including myself absolutely love the outtakes and behind the scenes features. While there are some bloopers it's hard not to ignore them and leave them out so I made up a short 8 minute behind the scene feature, "The Making of the Sign".
It is also a good opportunity for me to explain a little more about the film.
Trivia
The little girl in the pink coat didn't want to go home after the filming. She enjoyed her day out very much and cried when it's time to go home. Her mother had to drag her into the car.
