One Wish (2007)
A teenager recieves a parcel in her mailbox. It contains a wish and she could make only one wish. Would would it be? What would you wish for?
One Wish is a 7-minute film made especially for the New Zealand Deaf Short Film Competition this year. The theme is "Sign of the Times" and all films entering the competition must follow the theme.
The scenes was filmed in two days. One day with the girl, and the other with myself. This is one of the few films I cast myself in.
I use the close-up technique of the writing from Memories (2005). I love the close-up shot of someone writing a message on a piece of paper. We can see what she is writing and the shooting of close-up of the pen printing the ink onto the paper is very special to me.
This is my first time to enter the short film competition over there in New Zealand. It's New Zealand's 3rd Deaf Short Film Competition. The screening of the films was on 12th May 2007 in Auckland, New Zealand.
Unfortunately, the film was not accepted into the competition because I am from Australia. They only accept films that are made by Deaf filmmakers from New Zealand.
I regretted that I spent so much time and money on this. I have emailed to the New Zealand Deaf Association requesting about me as an Australian filmmaker entering the competition well before the deadline, but I heard nothing. My DVD disc and the entry form was returned to me months after.
Better luck next time.
Trivia
The film has three endings. The third ending was chosen because it is more effective and more colder than the other two. Most viewers finds it disturbing and recommended that it should be deleted or changed.
